THE BLACKRIDGE FOREST

A Pick-A-Path Adventure

It was a bright sunny Saturday morning. Emma had completed all her chores and was off to play in the garden with Twinkles, her faithful toy bear. After waving good morning to her neighbour Mr Brown, Emma headed down to the back on the garden, towards the rickety old gate that separated her house from the edge of Blackridge forest. Emma knew she was not supposed to enter Blackridge forest without an adult, but today she was after an adventure.

As she pulled back the gate, she could hear water running from the nearby stream, and fantails singing as they went about their daily tasks. The path into the forest looked very inviting, and as she closed the gate behind her and set off she did not think about any dangers that could lie ahead. Emma followed the path as it went deeper into the forest, and admired the tall rimu trees and ground ferns that made it look so green. She hummed to herself as she walked along, dragging Twinkles by his left ear through all the dirt on the path.

Up ahead she could see a fork in the path, to the left the path climbs up headings towards the top of the waterfall. To the right there's a rickety old swing bridge spanning the width of the river. As Emma approached the fork she debated about which way to go.

Do you want to turn left, and climb up towards the top or the waterfall?

Or

Do you want to turn right, and cross the rickety old swing bridge?
